Welcome to the website for Oakland Community College's IT Club. We are a newly formed StudentLife club that is focused on enhancing the learning of Information Technologies and Information Systems through diverse learning experiences.

The IT club will have speakers and presenters to teach members through hands-on experiences, on a wide range of technology-related topics. Take a look through our site and if you have any questions please let us know!!

6/23/2014 Walsh College came out and did a talk about their newly revamped IT program. Barbara Ciaramitar,Ph.D.,CISSP,CSSLP,PMP (Professor) and Scott Wyckoff (Admissions and Academic Advisor) spoke about the NEWLY revamped Bachelor of Science in Information Technology(BSIT) that will be launching for the first time this fall(Fall 2014). 6/4/2014 Angela Wafer from the admissions office at Eastern Michigan University came out and spoke about transfer articulation guides and program information for EMU's Information Assurance program. We plan on having the IA program director come out and do a presentation for their newly updated program within the next few months. 6/2/2014 Arpan Rughani, our Programming Chapter Chairman, had a Java workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Arpan was assisting students on different Java questions and walking students through the basic of java syntax, understanding of variables and more.
5/28/2014 Bryan Schenk, our Security Chapter Chairman, did a presentation for the security chapter about virtualization and an introduction to creating a learning lab that will be used for future security chapter projects.
5/21/2014 The IT club was very honored to have Ryan Hoyle join us from ExperienceIT Detroit. ExperienceIT is a 8 week 'full-time' (9a-5p) training bootcamp located in downtown Detroit, designed to train students and IT professionals on a range of both soft-skills and technologic skills related to .NET and SQL at NO COST TO THE STUDENT. This summer's session is focused on Software Engineering. If you're interested check out ExperienceITDetroit.com. If we have enough OCC applications they will come back to the RO campus and interview and test all the applicants on site(to save a trip downtown). This is a very unique and exciting opportunity anyone is interested in attending.
5/19/2014 Kathie and Tammy from RO/SO counseling returned to give a presentation about transfer credits and articulation guides for most universities in the state. They also answered some very CIS focused questions about the differences between Associates degrees, certifications, and certification of achievements.
5/12/2014 Our first meeting of the Summer semester we had the counseling department come in and gather specific questions that students in the CIS program have about OCC and the classes. They will be returning on the 19th to answer those questions as well as discuss transfer articulations to 4 year universities inside the state of Michigan.
4/16/2014 Final meeting of the Winter 2014 Semester. Hosted a conference call with testout.com - A web based certification prep and instruction package that has been in the certification industry for over 20 years. A discounted price is available for IT Club members. Video Demo's, hand-on simulations of installations, virtual tasks are all part of the package. This system will be implemented for CIS classes starting Fall 2014.
4/11/2014 Video Presentation of IT club interviews, Bryan Schenk spoke about the goals and projects for the security chapter over the Summer 2014 semester. Information about the testout.com conference call.
4/2/2014 We had a demonstration of a Raspberry Pi mini-computer done by John Rozsa of detroit-electronics.com. He is able to give a discount to IT Club members if you mention it during the ordering process. This demo went over great and we will repeat it in a future event!
3/28/2014 Jeff Narozny of metrodetroitphoto.com began recording video interviews at 12:00 pm and went through the beginning of the meeting at 5 p.m. We decided the rest of the meeting topics for the Winter semester and took some additional photos and videos of the club to be used in the promotion of the club. Began collecting member dues.
3/21/2014 Food Provided: We had a demonstration of how Dreamspark is used to access microsoft software through the .edu email address of OCC. Spoke about optical drive emulators to mount iso images.
3/14/2014 First full meeting of the Winter Semester. Launched the offical website. Worked on finalizing the brochure for the Summer/Fall semester. Spoke about many updates and corrections needed on the site. Introduced the idea of Security chapter.
