During his time at OCC, John obtained his degree in Computer Informations Systems – Systems Support. During his 2nd year at OCC, the Raspberry Pi mini computer was released. John saw a business opportunity. He noticed that the Raspberry Pi foundation did not cater the needs of their customers very well and he thought by starting his own company selling the Raspberry Pi mini computer and related items would very likely become a successful business. Using programming skills (HTML and Java) which he obtained from OCC classes, John was able to create an Ecommerce website which now sees thousands of views per month. By using the business management skills he learned from various classes at OCC, John worked hard to expand his customer base; and with much success. Detroit DIY Electronics (John's business) saw over ¼ million dollars in sales last year. John and his company plan on expanding their inventory to not just sell Raspberry Pi related products but other DIY electronics products as well- including the Beagle Board and the Arduino. John plans on attending Eastern Michigan University in the Fall of 2014 and plans on obtaining his 2nd degree; this one in Information Assurance.
